Working with independent hardware stores gave me my first insight into day-to day aspects of retail and customer service. I traveled to a lumber retailer in Florida who spoke about how his business was able to aid his community during natural disasters. I wanted to take advantage of the open air lumber yard in my photographs. When my team was able to visit a retailer we were speaking to, we preferred to let those photos be the stars in the design of the story.
