Publication design is about finding that sweet spot where aesthetics meet functionality, where every element plays its part in creating a visually delicious experience for the reader. It’s the art of blending typography, images, and layout in a way that not only catches the eye but also tells a story. Most of my experience in this avenue comes from my time spent working on a magazine for independent hardware store owners.

Lumber & Building Profile
I traveled to a lumber retailer in Florida who spoke about how his business was able to aid his community during natural disasters. I wanted to take advantage of the open air lumber yard in my photographs. When my team was able to visit a retailer we were speaking to, we preferred to let those photos be the stars in the design of the story.
Green Living Profile
For this short story about recycling, the visually striking illustrations aimed to pique the readers' curiosity and draw them in to uncover the answers within the narrative. By utilizing a blend of visuals and charts, the design sought to emphasize the question at hand about the relevancy of recycling without relying on familiar retail or store imagery.
Mynx Extravaganza Program
Mynx Extravaganza started as a one night showcase in a small venue featuring students from Mynx academy and strip club dancers from the St. Louis area. It has since grown into a three show festival featuring students, the extended pole family, and phenomenal headliners.
Camping Profile
Bear Hardware is the go to spot for camping equipment in Brown County, IN. This photoshoot was a challenge because of the extreme temperature the day of the shoot. When choosing photos and designing the layout for the story there was some strategic editing involved to make our model look like he was as cool as a cucumber.
Home Depot Profile
Every year, the Hardware Association releases a detailed report comparing big box hardware stores to small independent retailers. Though the information could be dull, it was crucial to present it in a way that is easy for readers to understand. This involved using infographics to showcase key facts and incorporating visuals to break up the text.
Covid Procedures
Before reopening in May 2020 after Covid closures, Chrome Fitness took proactive steps to prioritize safety by sharing informative flyers distributed to both staff and students. In addition to this, the content was repurposed for engaging social media posts.
Store Safety Profile
The editor for this story had the idea to draw out a “blueprint” of a store. I took her story and fit it into specific sections where safety hazards can occur around a hardware store. This resulted in a comprehensive visual guide that not only enhanced the story's presentation but also provided valuable insights for readers on potential safety concerns.
Paint & Sundries Profile
Retailer profiles were frequently featured within the magazine at the Hardware Association. Presenting a visually captivating story proved to be a complex challenge that required meticulous attention to details and creativity to captivate readers effectively.
